The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of eight academic departments in the Bagley College of Engineering. The Department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in mechanical engineering, as well as graduate studies leading to MS and PhD degrees. In addition, the department offers graduate distance M. S. and Ph. D. programs. The Department has approximately 920 undergraduates, 110 graduate students, 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, one clinical faculty, and three instructors. Annual research expenditures for the department are approximately $12 million. Faculty members play a vital role in several college and university research centers (http://www.me.msstate.edu) and have developed strong research programs in the areas of computational engineering, energy systems design, materials science and engineering, and solid mechanics. In particular, several faculty members are instrumental in the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems with annual research expenditures of approximately
$17 million (http://www.cavs.msstate.edu).
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely aligned field (ABD’s will be considered). Candidates are expected to have demonstrated the ability to conduct research at the highest level and to have a record of, or the promise for, outstanding teaching and supervision of students.
